Second Prize (Album Launch) Magnets Duke Batavia Doors 1:00pm / $15 Door FACEBOOK EVENT Launching their debut album ‘The Heel Turn’, Second Prize are here to give masculinity the Marie Kondo treatment. With songs that inhabit the cracks in our ideas of what it means to be a man are beginning to show, Second Prize by turns evoke the sleazy disco of Pulp, the mid-life-crisis scuzz-rock of Grinderman-era Nick Cave, and the hangover-weary tenderness of Lambchop and Sparklehorse. Led by John Palmer (The Raylenes, Georgia Fields band) and Dave Rogers (Klinger, Sophie Koh, Ben Lee) the band also features seasoned Melbourne pros Amy Bennett, Dave Kleynjans and Tim Reid. Supports are the breezy, honey-voiced Duke Batavia, whose close harmony work takes its cues from 1950s and ‘60s indo-pop, and Magnets, and erstwhile classical pianist who threw it all in to create dazzling, sinister rock and pop. |
