Emerging from several enterprising years playing with a string of Australia’s best new musicians, Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Tyler Millott presents his intriguing and bittersweet (emphasis on the ‘sweet’) pop-grunge project, THE TERRIFYING LOWS.
THE TERRIFYING LOWS centres on the twin pillars of Millott’s thudding electric guitar and his nonchalant gift for a gum-sticky melody; this is power pop with an unhurried, sensitive edge. It’s a style the singer-songwriter has honed for his own over his time as bass player for Melbourne artist Ali Barter, as well as recording and/or touring with Gretta Ray, Husky and Ben Wright Smith.
Debut single Cool With It details the slow realisation that a toxic relationship needs addressing – but in what way, our protagonist isn’t totally sure: “Don’t you know these things you say, they will always stay with me?” Millott appeals with deceptively smooth delivery, before falling into the heavy-hearted, propulsive chorus: “It gets so hard to be cool with it.”
The Terrifying Lows launch debut single 'Cool With It' at The Workers Club Thursday June 7.
